What an adventure!! Called out to a young otter pup found at Porth Clais Harbour late last night. Local swimmers first spotted him at last light, They monitored him for hours. We needed to be sure he was indeed orphaned. Pup was quite distressed, searching up and down stream, squeeking for mum. First attempt was a fail, disturbed by our torches he disappeared upstream. Local folks checked on him later and he had reappeared, squeeking constantly. We popped back down just shy of midnight. Armed with a plan… Our plan went out the window as soon as we arrived. Pup was mooching about in the stream next to the slipway. This little one let us get right up close to him. I was able to sneak up and pounce (yes I can pounce 😂). Wrapped in a towel he was popped in the vari kennel and spent the night in our garage, cwtched up with a hot water bottle. RSPCA inspector Ellie came over this morning to transfer him up to Stapeley Grange. A fantastic result, hopefully this little guy will grow big and strong for release in due course.
